There's levels of officialness, I guess. Yesterday we paid for the house, which is convincing enough. At some point the lawyer will give us a copy of the titledeed, which makes it official for the government statisticians. But today we drove to Dannevirke to receive the keys, and make our first "our house now" inspection.
| It's a cold and windy day in the 'virke, but that won't wipe the smiles off our faces |
That makes it much more real than a piece of paper, or a phonecall.
The inspection went well, overall. Things are prety clean inside, apart from some wallmarkings we'll need to get rid of ourselves. Outside there were a few minor issues - there was still a few things from the previous owner that they'd obviously forgotten (including a box of family photographs), and the tap in the laundry had leaked all over the concrete floor, but that's all fixable pretty easily. The (now previous) owner had left us a bottle of wine, some choccies and a card to say welcome, which was lovely, and the real estate agent had brought an entire yummies-basket for us as well, to say welcome to Dannevirke. We're feeling pretty chipper about it all!
After driving back to Wellington later today, we'll finish packing tomorrow (not much left to do), and on Monday the movers turn up. When they're gone, we'll clean up here, and on Tuesday the truck arrives in Dannevirke. Then we just need to have our current (and final!) landlords to inspect Lomita Rd after Wednesday's planned carpet cleaning, and that'll be that.
Well, that and the unpacking of a thousand boxes.
